Every website building platform has pros and cons. Prior to signing up to a website building platform, it is important to evaluate and take into consideration the pros and cons of the platform.

Wix Pros

• There are well over 500 hundred templates, which can be used for every kind of website, for no fee.
• You can add features such as live support, newsletters, contests, reservation tools, and testimonials to your website.

Wix Cons

• With a variety of themes and design options, you can become overwhelmed and create a too busy or clustered website, which is unappealing (Weebly is better at this).
• The only way you will be able to view your site stats is if you pay to add Google Analytics.
• There is virtually no automatic mobile design.

Ease of Use

Many website building services require coding skills to begin using them. But, Wix is a bit different than most. Instead of needing coding knowledge, to start with Wix, all you have to do is fill up a registration form.

After signing up to Wix, you will be redirected to the page where you create your website. If you have a detailed idea of what you want your website to look like, Wix is so easy to use (also if you haven't read our guide on how to build a website be sure to do so), you can have your website live within a few short minutes.

If you don’t know what you want your website to look like, simply scroll through the hundreds of templates, and pick one that appeals to you.

After you pick your template, you have the option to customize it to your specific design appeal.

Also, if you need to add, remove, or manipulate an element on your website, simply use the Wix drag-and-drop editor. This tool makes customizing your website a lot easier than it is on other platforms.

Finally, you can have absolutely zero graphic design experience, and easily tweak and create photos and graphics with the easy to use image-editing tools.

Wix's Best Features

User Experience

Wix is one of the best website editors out there since there are many ways in which they don’t let the chaos of the blank canvas editor get in the way. An example would be that if you add more text to an element, it will move the other elements to another place. Many other website builders let elements overlap, which ends up looking messy.

Another handy hack by Wix is that they’ve added an arrow button that allows you to see a preview of your site by letting you pull away all the menus. This is because the interface can look quite cluttered and untidy.

Wix is very flexible since it gives its users many different options to choose from. For the user who loves having control over his website, this website editor is perfect.

Below we’ll mention some of the different design elements you can use to make the pages on your site, but Wix makes it possible to also integrate 3rd party apps through their App Market.

Themes

Most other website builders will allow you to modify your template but Wix doesn’t. Once you’ve made your choice, you must stick to it. So, we advise you to choose carefully before making a decision you’ll end up regretting.

The upside is that Wix’s themes are highly customizable and they let you choose between a broad range of design elements, such as buttons, icons, lists, boxes, etc. If you’d like to design your theme from scratch, that is also a viable option.

A downside to using Wix, a blank canvas editor, is that it doesn’t offer you a great consistency and structure. A great example would be the customization of the sidebar on your blog, you’ll be forced to edit the Individual post page and the Blog page. As you can already image, this creates an inequality between the two.

This is also an issue for paragraphs and headings since Wix wants you to edit them on an individual basis instead of managing them within a separate style section. You’ll have to keep an eye on all the different elements to make your website have a homogenous look and feel.

Blog

A Wix blog is created by dragging and dropping elements onto a page (See our guide on how to create a blog if you don't know where to begin). You have the choice between several blog layouts and they are all customizable. 

As we’ve mentioned previously, you’ll have to customize the Blog page and the Single Post page separately to preserve the same look and feel of your site.

Wix gives its users many different elements to choose from, so designing the blog is very enjoyable. You’ll be able to categorize and tag posts, schedule posts, and add Facebook and Disqus comments, and save as draft.

Another wonderful Wix feature is the post editor, which we’re sure you’ll adore writing in.

eCommerce

There are a few customization options for each store page on Wix’s store, such as editing button titles, setting the language of your shopping cart page, changing the product page layouts, and much more.

If you’d like to make an online store, Wix gives you many options to work with. You can set shipping and tax rules. Create coupon codes, set product options, etc. the only downside is that you can’t adapt e-mail receipts that your customers will receive.

UPDATE: Wix Code

The newly announced Wix Code feature is a game changer for the platform and for website builders as a whole.

Now in beta, Wix Code will enable anyone to build any web application they can imagine, customizing their own Wix components.

Pricing

While Wix is known for the phenomenal tools and options they give free of charge, they do offer paid packages. Basically, the main differences between the free package and the paid packages are; an increased amount of website storage, bandwidth, access to advanced features, no ads, and the ability to link the site to your own domain.

Overall, the Unlimited plan provides the most bang for your buck. That being said, most users upgrade to the Unlimited plan.

Customer Support

Wix offers a few customer support tiers. The first option is their help center, which provides people with step-by-step tutorials.

This help center is accessible to everyone, but it is the only form of customer support for people who are on the free plan.

If you are a paying customer, you also have access to Premium Wix Customer Service. So, in addition to the help center, you have the option to submit a ticket to the Support Forum, where an expert representative will help you, and answer any questions you have within a few days.

Finally, if you have the VIP plan, you also have access to a variety of customer support options, including:
